Welcome to Glyn Hall – A community space for all

INTRODUCTION

Tucked away in the heart of Ewell Village, Glyn Hall has served our community for over a century. Margaret Henrietta Glyn, the last member of Ewell’s Glyn dynasty and a champion of the area, bequeathed her wooden music room to the village just before she died in 1946.

Lovingly looked after by volunteers, this little green hall has played a key role in local life ever since, but despite best efforts the building has reached the end of its life. Determined to stop it falling to developers, a new group of volunteers have stepped in to save a much-loved community hub that’s as original and independent as the area it serves.

Unique to other halls available within the area, Glyn Hall is not religious or a commercial enterprise but a hall available 365 days of the year to the community for a reasonable fee.

Now Glyn Hall is set for an exciting new chapter, as we prepare to replace the original structure with a modern, sustainable, fit-for-purpose design that’s built for the future while honouring its past. Boasting a large hall, kitchen facilities and meeting spaces, the not-for-profit venue will provide the backdrop for a range of local gatherings – from social clubs and society meetings to exercise classes and birthday parties.

Having worked tirelessly to secure planning permission and £90k in funding, our volunteer trustees must now raise a further £300k to construct the new hall – and we need your help. Every donation, however large or small, gets us one step closer to our target of creating a space where our community can meet and make memories for generations to come. In return by way of thanks your name or company will feature on our donor wall within the hall.

Margaret Glyn left a rare and precious gift to the people of Ewell that must not be lost or stolen from us. Together, we have a duty to nurture and protect Glyn Hall, retaining its place at the heart of our community and extending its legacy for the future. They say it takes a village to raise a child – now let’s get Ewell Village to raise Glyn Hall’s roof!

Many ordinary people do many ordinary things for their community but few get to leave a legacy. When someone can, the gift is precious, the community is charged to nurture it, make it grow and make it better for those that come after. Margaret Glyn was one such person; she gave the village a duty of trust, a trust that must not be betrayed and a gift that must not be lost or stolen from you. The community needed Margaret Glyn then, Margaret needs you all now, don’t lose the legacy, don’t let Glyn hall die.

A new modern building, with more space and more facilities. You could be part of it.
